What the heck is Growl Dog .com?
Growl Dog . com is about art, music, multimedia, and the history of my friends and
I. We all enjoy making music, drawing pictures, and doing whatever else
we like, to create something interesting.
It seemed as if most people considered themselves normal, and some wanted to
be different. I noticed that some people welcomed this behavior, while others did
not. The interesting thing was that if I compare middle school to high
school, I notice that most improve with age, as far as accepting people who
are different from them and what they consider to be normal.
Brief History from Elliot's point of view:
- 1985:
I was in the 5th grade. I was interested in science, astronomy was my
favorite. I also liked to draw pictures, make flip-books, and I even
created my own comic book 'Super Frog'. I brought it into school and my
teacher, Ms. Revere, and all the students liked it. I remember that some
of my classmates helped me color that comic. I became friends with Chad
Green; he was the son of my dad's friend John. I didn't get to see
him much, because he lived about 15 miles away; I did have fun when we
did get together though.
- 1986-1988: These were the middle school years. I continued to
draw pictures, create little RPG's, and I joined the orchestra in '87.
Mr. Epistola was the teacher, and I played the viola. The art elective
was one of my favorite classes as well, and I also drew a comic book for an
art project during that time. I also met Jesse Gura in
'87. He is another artist musician that I still maintain contact with
from time to time.
- 1989-1991: These are the years where I became friends with
other artists whom I am still in contact with. Kevin Hinman, Sir Millard Mulch,
and Mark Sweeney, I met them all in '89. I also ran a BBS system called
"4th Dimension" in '91. I remember my old friend Chad signing
into my BBS, before he realized that I was the sysop.
- 1992: Kevin and I recorded our first music tape; rough, impromptu, and hard to listen to.
Kevin suggested that we named our band Growl Dog, and I agreed. Growl
Dog was an alien cartoon comic book villain that I created several years
before. Jesse Gura and Jason Kugershaw did some music with Growl Dog
for a brief period of time in '92 as well. Sir Millard Mulch was another artist
musician that is extremely talented; I remember that he also had a band called Voice of Nothing in
'92, and the music was exceptional.
- 1993-1995: Mark is another great musician, and we started working
together in '93. We recorded several experimental demo tapes
to expand and develop our musical motifs. I attended Ringling School of
Art and Design during this time, and met Jason Giddings, another
fellow artist friend that I maintain contact with. Bobby Crandall,
another excellent artist, Jason, and I did an animation project together for
Traditional Animation class in '94.
- 1996-1998: I worked at an envelope factory with Chad, both of us
designed our own web pages, and we talked about computers, web design, and
stuff. I can't remember the exact words of the conversation, but Chad
asked me if I wanted to start a web design company, and I thought it was a
good idea. So we founded Green Bull Web Design Inc. in '96; Chad was the
president, I was the vice president, and his sister, Chantell Green, was the
secretary. I remember we had a hard time choosing the name, and Carol
Green, Chad's mom and artist, suggested the name Green Bull. P.J. Brooks, a
business man and friend of Carol, joined Green Bull in '97; with P.J.'s
knowledge and expertise in business, we actually started to get some clients
that followed through.
- 1999: Growl Dog recorded it's first CD, Growl Dog - 1000ft tall; still a dwarf.
Growldog.com was developed and made available to everybody on the Internet.
Mark Sweeney, and Kevin Hinman both contributed their musical talents to this
album. This was also the year I met my future wife, Cathy.
- 2000: A lot happened during this year. I got married, then
became a proud dad of a new baby girl named Abigail. Also, I finally
completed my first official comic, "Surreal Dimension"; it was released,
and followed by a new line of t-shirt and sporty undershirt designs.
- 2001: My artistic focus for this year was on web site development and multimedia technology. We also worked on
some music.
We all remember the tragedies that happened toward the end of the year.
There were local tragedies that hit home during this time as well. Chad
died in an accident about the same time as 9-11. My wife's step-mom also
died in an accident at the same time. It was like chaos, with the negative aspects all at once.
Green Bull Web Design Inc. officially ended, and all the remaining web sites
were now in my hands.
- 2002: Kevin, or better known as Pupiest, left Growl Dog and moved to another state. Dang! Kevin moved back, and is interested in creating music
again. Good! I continued to work on music a little bit, and web
design. I also continued to study astronomy, and had the opportunity to
view Saturn, Jupiter, the Moon, and the stars through a fairly decent Meade
telescope. I also met a new friend and fellow astronomer, Frank Page.
- 2003: I continued working on music, and web design. Frank and I
had the opportunity to get a close look at Saturn through the telescope with a
high powered eye piece. Frank died later this year.
I miss him, but I am still glad that I met him. I've been working on music,
and updating this web site in my spare time.
- 2004: The music has progressed at a slow pace, but we will have a
new album one of these years. I had the oppertunity to do some experimental
recordings with another excellent musician, Eric Becker. Mark worked on some
new songs, and sent them to me via computer. We worked together on new songs
as well through our computers. Other than that, been working a lot, but I enjoy
the time off that I get to spend with my family.
- 2005: We have continued to work on music for the upcoming Growl Dog
album, Do-Bot. Pupiest gets back in the house with another tale of The Street.
Eric will also be included in the new album. I found out that he will be moving
to another part of the state soon, but I have a feeling we will remain in
contact.
